War Wind Sprites Rip

This is an ooold stuff from an ooold video game called War Wind. A few years back, I found a way to extract all sprites from the game's archives, and I posted them online on a different blog, and now people are asking for it again. So, here it is. :)

  1. Do you still have the ways to extract them? Would you mind share the process?

    1. Hey, sorry for the wait, can't say I'm very active here anymore.

I *might* be able to find the script I've written to that effect for you, just give me some time to check. If I don't, well, the resource files are pretty straightforward. All graphics are encoded in bitmap (that is, for a 32x32 tile, you'll have exactly 32x32 bytes that represent a pixel each), with some metadata (graphics width, height, padding, stuff like that) right before. You just have to kick your hex editor and figure out where each graphics start and end. :) Oh, and also extract the palette (War Wind was a 256-colors game, so it was required to map each of the 256 possibles bytes to a true color code). Hope It helped a bit. :)

  2. Hi there! Not sure if you still check this blog. But I wonder if I could reach you via email? I'm really interested if you found the script. I know nothing about datamining but I'm a huge fan of the game, and I wonder what treasures I could find in other versions of the game. Please let me know! :)
